What Can Utah Do To Be The Longest Living State?
An expert says if you want to live longer, you need to stop drinking after 50. That is just one of the suggestions in this article, but it is a big one. Since Utah is known as a dry state does that mean that we can expect to live forever?
It only stands to reason, if drinking after you are 50 decreases longevity, then not drinking most of your life is sure to add up to life at least longer than our neighboring states. However, looking at the CDC data we are not the state with the longest expected lifetime. Who has that status? Hawaii. Hawaii?
Life expectancy in Hawaii is 80 years. The longest of the states. Then comes California and Massachusetts at 79 years. California is wine country, that doesn't make sense. And isn't Ben Franklin from Massachusetts the very one who said beer was a sign that God loves us?
Utah comes in at 78.6 so we did alright, but I would have thought we would do better.
I guess we should stop drinking even earlier, check those baby bottles and make sure none of our toddlers are drinking sour milk.
The article also said we should take it easy on the sugar. Maybe that is what has been shortening our lives. So, no more ice cream nights and birthday cakes are going to have to be rice cakes.

I know we can take the number one spot if we just try harder. Or maybe we undermine our competition, send sugary treats to Hawaii in bulk, if we can't beat them, they can join us.
