Inspiration to start your own company comes in many forms. You might excel at a certain skill and figure you might as well go into business and make it a real thing. You might love something and follow the advice, "find a way to get paid to do what you love," or maybe you went to school, got trained in a skill, and then decided to go into business for yourself.

Not many of us would have taken a prank as inspiration to start a business, but that's exactly what St. George businesswoman Kate Guthrie and her husband/partner—I guess you would call them partners in both relationships—did.

They had gone to a mall, and when they came out, a friend had bombarded their car with 100 bananas. When you have that much free inventory for making banana bread, the sign was obvious. So, they decided to create Kate's Banana Bread, a homemade banana bread business. This idea took off, and they are excited about the opportunity.

What pranks have you been a part of that could turn into a business? Here is a short list of ideas to get you thinking:

  • A refrigerator repair tech for those times your refrigerator "wasn't running."
  • A cellophane strength tester for the many pranks that involve cellophane blocking something.
  • A whoopee cushion tester.
  • A pest exterminator for the many spider, bug, snake pranks that you have endured.
  • A medical professional from dealing with all of the fake lacerations, severed body parts and medical accidents.
  • A laundry professional from removing the ketchup stains when dealing with all of the fake lacerations, severed body parts and medical accidents.

There are just a few ideas, what has happened to you that might be the beginnings of a new career? If the pranks don't work there has to be something that has awakened you to new career possibilities.
