Would You Try Snake Meat Pizza In Utah?

Some people can eat any food. It doesn’t bother them. Chocolate covered crickets, give me a hand full. You let the fish rot in a can for a year? Where’s my fork. One time I was going to try frog legs. They were deep fried in batter, and I figured I could handle it. Nope, my gag reflex wouldn’t even let me begin chewing.

For some reason, the Pizza Hut pizza being sold in Hong Kong with snake meat as a topping has caught my attention. Snake meat is enjoyed in Hong Kong, and they feel it has medicinal benefits. They usually eat it in a soup. Pizza Hut is just offering something everyone already enjoys there. 

This move is part of a trend among Asian franchises of American brands to celebrate local food culture with gastronomical creations, including pizzas featuring durian, pig blood curds, or Tonkotsu ramen. 

I don’t have a fear of snakes. Growing up in Utah, most of the snakes are out in the desert and leave you alone for the most part. People have told me they have eaten rattlesnake, and it tastes like chicken. I like chicken and so I always kind of wanted to taste snake meat.  

Putting it on a pizza with cheese and sauce would surely make it easier to eat. Having said that, I have a feeling when I had a slice with that snake meat in front of my face, the gagging would begin. 

What regional favorites are there in Utah that you could add to pizza? I wouldn’t mind a slice with bits of beef jerky on it. Maybe you could do something with a pomegranates. How about a pizza featuring freeze dried bananas from your food storage?
