The Shape of Hawaii Cutting Board

My daughter and her friend have always wanted to try living in Hawaii. So different from other people they thought Hawaii would be a nice place to be. Ok, maybe that is a universal desire. They ended up moving there for a year and while visiting home gave us a cute cutting board with a map of the Hawaiian Islands etched into it.

with my Hawaiian cutting board in mind, I recently came across a deep and profound question: which state shape would make the best cutting board?

How Did Utah Do?

As you might expect Utah did pretty well in the poll. We have a nice square portion for cutting. The problem with Utah’s shape is our cut out. The square hole taken by Colorado is too small, so the top of the state is too wide for a handle. You could use the notch for a place to stack what you have cut. Sort of like the western desert lands where we stack all of our unwanted refuge.

Other Candidates?

Texas and Oklahoma did very well because their protrusion acts as a handle, but hold on, Oklahoma can’t be a cutting board and a pan at the same time, can they? And speaking of pans, did you know that there is a chef hidden in the shapes of the states in the middle of the country?

Michigan got points for being two cutting boards for the price of one. Washington is pretty good, but it looks like someone violently chipped a corner off Wyoming. I don’t know about Florida, it’s too skinny to hold your cuttings. Delaware could be great for cutting micro food.
