Everything Looks Legitimate

Artificial intelligence can make many of the tedious day-to-day tasks easier. If you have discovered ways AI can easily accomplish tasks you should know it is also helping those with bad intentions. Cado Security Labs has discovered a new level of scams happening using AI.

This involves an elaborate scheme with fake investment companies looking to contact people through what looks like a legitimate video chat that requires a software download. This will give access to your computer, and they are stealing identities and even crypto.

What To Watch Out For

Part of what makes these scams work is the level of detail. False social media pages, company websites and people testifying to its legitimacy. This would take a lot of work, but with AI, these scammers can do it quickly and personalize it to the one they have marked.

You should always check where you are downloading the software from and be very wary of doing so. Check and double check what you are being told. It would be a good idea to call someone you trust who works with computers and is aware of malicious software.

The other way to spot a scam is the tried and true “if it is too good to be true, it is”. Even with the elaborate scheme, they are still preying on people’s greed. If someone is trying to tell you about an amazing opportunity, you should immediately be skeptical.

It seems that the scams are getting more believable, but the motivation is still the same. Do not get suckered into someone offering you some pie in the sky.
