A Submission for the Trials

How does a demon progress? The trials are the key. Succubus and his classmates watch as older demons prepare to prove their skills in this most important ritual. Sadly they are scooted off before they can watch the action. Dave has written a 3 book fantasy series called “The Demon Curse” that discusses life in the underworld including their schooling.

I am posting a portion of the book per week. If you like riveting stories at the price of FREE this is for you. Here is the thirty-eighth installment of The Demon Curse Series Book #1 entitled “Son of Ruin” written by David E. Hiatt.

Most of the demons would pass the trials, but those who failed the test would remain in the demon world to work as servants to the rest. It was a miserable existence which shortened their lives, and therefore, there was always a need for more workers in this area.

Borgin, who was sitting nearby stared with disgust at the group of demons who would soon be tried. He leaned towards Succubus. “Don’t bother looking at that group ‘prophesied one’. Your destiny is a short one in the Pits.”

A Resolve Begins to Form

Succubus remained silent.

If anyone knows how to stay in the demon world as a servant, it's Borgin, he thought.

He had no intention of letting that happen to him. When his time came, he would be ready. He would pass the trials and enter the doorways.

Succubus wished he could somehow stay to watch the trials and see what they entailed.

“The students will return to the school and the trials will begin,” said Asag, followed by a raucous roar from the gathered host.

Rising to his feet, Succubus joined the crowd of students making their way across the large flat area and back to the Caves of Learning. As he did, he noticed a tall demon with a long face standing to the side of the column of students. He was nearly fully grown with horns that started from the side of his head, rose up and pointed forward. His beard was dark and full.

“That’s Ord,” said Ipses from behind. “He is now the most powerful in the school.”
