The site Amerisleep.com looked at searches for data related to mouth breathing. These include terms related to mouth taping, mouth breathing, and nose breathing. Utah has been looking this up on the internet enough to put us at fifth in the nation.
There must be a lot of mouth breathing going on in the beehive state. Massachusetts was number one with Colorado, New York, and California next. While Mississippi apparently is happy with how their nose works as they were least likely to search these terms.
Why is Utah so interested in this? It turns out it may have something to do with the dry climate, allergies, and a culture that prizes wellness that has Utah searching for information on mouth breathing.
Mouth Taping is a Trend to Solve the Problem
There have been many influencers who have been trying something called mouth taping. This is where you place a sticky piece of tape vertically across your lips at night. It is supposed to encourage you to breathe through your nose.
According to WebMD this isn’t a method that has been tested, and it is unclear if the results are beneficial. They note that it isn’t for everyone as it can cause anxiety, discomfort for the skin, and it may disrupt your sleep.
