The Warbirds are coming to Southern Utah. The Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum located at the St. George Airport is bringing in some vintage fighter jets for the public to enjoy this weekend. There will also be C-54 and C-7 planes you can check out.

If you want to experience the history of these vintage planes firsthand, you can schedule a ride in at T-6 Texan, a fighter plane used to train pilots in the 1970’s. Instead of just walking around and looking in the plane, you can actually jump in and fly in it.

I was able to fly in one of these vintage planes a few years ago. It was a C-47 that would transfer soldiers between 1946 to 1967. I joined other media members in the back of the plane. The plane took off and circled around St George.

It was a simple flight, but it was profound to think about the men who had ridden in those seats before me. Staring out the little windows with the sound of the engine roaring and feeling the vibrations in the metal helped me feel and see a little from these soldiers' perspective.

This Armed Forces Celebration will take play this weekend Friday and Saturday May 19-20 at the airport. There will be food vendors, military displays along with the planes you can inspect. General Admission is $8.00 with 17 and under get in free. It also includes a Hangar Dance on Saturday night.

Take the kids out this weekend and let them experience some history firsthand at the Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum at 4196 S Airport Parkway in St. George.
