Remembering A Legendary Southern Utah Establishment
The music is busting and the air is electric and then you heard him, legendary Jon Carter on the mic calling out moves and the country line dancing was on.
Do you remember the days of dancing at Jon Carter's Dance Factory in Southern Utah?
What a great establishment. He knew how to make dancing fun and safe so you could go have a good time, meet people and learn how to dance.
The Dance Factory had many homes, if you are old enough you might remember when it was on Highway 9 on your way to Hurricane. There used to be a sports park there and Jon would light it up at night for country dancing.
You might remember when he was in the basement of the old Cotton Mill, now a Star nursery.
I loved how Jon always had big plans and a big heart for hosting and teaching country dancing. Dave and I even took classes from Jon and proved that not everyone can learn to line dance. We kept interrupting the flow and finally, our wives gave up on us.
Then the Dance Factory found a more permanent home across the street in the Cottontown village. It seemed like it was there for a long time.
Do you remember where else Jon Carter set up shop?
Oh yeah, there was that entertainment hall that is now a church and he had it there for a while.
I think many of us could take off our hats as Jon introduced us to a love of music, dancing and maybe even the love of our lives. Here is to Jon Carter and the Dance Factory.
