Here’s the Popular Cruise Getting Booked By Utahns That Doesn’t Include An Ocean
I asked Gary Sorensen from Morris Columbus Travel about what was all the rage in travel here in Southern Utah. He told me that people are booking cruises but specifically it is the river cruises that everyone wants to go on.
Cruising Rivers is Better Than the Open Ocean
“People love river cruising. I love river cruising, especially over in Europe,” said Sorensen. “The Rhine River and the Danube are the most popular.”
People are loving river cruises because they are smaller boats with less people. The scenery is always good to look at as you slide past beautiful shorelines on both sides and there are many places to get off and explore.
Part of the reason the Rhine is so popular is the 40 castles you will see. By taking a cruise, you don’t have the hassle of driving through the country and making your way through the crowds, you step off the boat, and you are at the next amazing stop.
How Much More Does a River Cruise Cost?
A cruise on the Rhine or the Danube will run you about double a good ocean cruise. This is because there aren’t as many people and the trip is more inclusive. However, there are many extras that are part of the package.
Ocean cruises charge for things that are included with these river cruises like the shore excursions, food and drinks. So, when you factor in these costs, a river cruise is comparable in price.

“The river cruise up the Rhine takes you from Amsterdam all the way up to Basel Switzerland, touching on Germany and France,” said Sorensen. It might be time to jump on the bandwagon, or at least a ship and go see some castles.
