New Nevada Laws That Might Cross State Lines
Southern Nevada & Utah: A New Year, A New Law… and Yes, It Might Affect You

If you thought 2026 would quietly tiptoe in like a shy houseguest, think again. Nevada is rolling out a handful of new laws on January 1, 2026, and they’re coming in hot — especially for those of us in Southern Nevada and those of us who treat Las Vegas like a personal Shopping annex.
Health Care Law Changes
One of the biggest changes? Health insurance companies now have stricter deadlines for approving or denying claims — typically 30 days for paper claims and 21 days for electronic ones. Translation: no more waiting so long for an answer that you forget why you went to the doctor in the first place.

Meanwhile, healthcare providers can charge no more than $30 to complete required FMLA paperwork. That’s right — your doctor can no longer bill you the price of a small kayak just to sign a form.
Crossing State Lines
Nevada also joined the Interstate Counseling Compact, making it easier for licensed counselors to practice across state lines. Utahns, this means your favorite therapist might now legally be able to treat you across the border when you flee to St. George for “clarity.”
Drivers Alert
And for the drivers: if you’re cruising I‑15, maybe don’t test fate. Nevada’s **DUI penalties for cases involving death are getting significantly harsher** under AB4. If you needed another reason to hand your keys to the cousin who “doesn’t drink, just vibes,” this is it.
So buckle up, Southern Nevada and Utah. New year, new rules, same desert sun. Stay informed, stay safe, and maybe — just maybe — stay out of trouble.
