Living Off The Grid In Utah: A Dream Or Nightmare?

With the world becoming more dangerous all the time, you may be thinking you would enjoy getting off the grid. I enjoy the television shows and YouTube videos where they build a place off the grid. The only electricity available might be a couple solar panels and the water is fed by gravity to a tub. Often the bathroom is a hole in a board away from the house. 

Watching these people build their house out by some lake in the middle of nowhere makes me want to do the same. Like me, you may want to escape the current world. Before you head into the Yukon with an axe and a hammer to start taking down some trees and building your dream, you can rent an off the grid cabin and find out if it is something you can handle. 

This A-frame off the grid house is typical of those you can rent on Airbnb. There is one just like it near Zion National Park that will cost you $150 a night. Test it out for a couple of days and you will get an idea if leaving the modern world is what you were looking for or if the middle of nowhere is too much of a good thing. 

My in-laws had a cabin up above Zion that was somewhat primitive. There was an outdoor kitchen with a sink and a big deck. The outhouse was scary with too many bugs to feel comfortable. It was a lot of fun to take my boys and their friends for a day or two, but I would not want that to be my only residence. 

Maybe it would be ideal for you. It could be just what your hermit heart needs. With all of the options available to rent a place, you could find out for sure. If nothing else, a stay somewhere in the boonies always makes me appreciate a working refrigerator and a toilet that flushes.
