Do This Utah And Live Forever
In Utah we talk a lot about living forever. What if our dental hygiene were part of the answer?
You might be rolling your eyes right now and if you aren't wait until I tell you what we need to do. It's floss. Yeah, according to this article flossing can extend your life substantially.
How could flossing possibly affect how long you live? Well according to the experts it has to do with bacteria. Often, we think of bacteria colonies as localized, "I ate something bad now I have a stomachache", or "if I don't wash my hands it could get in my mouth". But according to experts we shouldn't localize our health but consider our bodies as a complete organism. Meaning, if you take care of the bacterial colonies in your mouth it will improve the health of your entire body.
Now they didn't exactly promise life ever after, but they do say that the simple act of flossing can extend years of your life and even improve it.
Flossing? No, not the catchy dance featured in Fortnight. We're talking about taking a piece of waxed or unwaxed string and pulling it through your teeth. If you do it like I do (or don't depending on the hour) then you are probably just pulling the floss between your teeth, maybe giving it a slide back and forth and then back up, but we need to make a C shape and then slide it back and forth to do a full job.
They encourage traditional floss, more than floss picks or water floss (which I like) because the long strand of floss is more effective.
What do you think Utah? Could flossing really be the key to living forever?
