Fall in Utah means that those with allergies and sinus problems need to be extra vigilant of the weather.

Though Utah got a late start on Fall this year that doesn’t mean that those pesky allergies have gone away. In fact, they could have hit you like a ton of bricks with the sudden weather change. As Fall comes in full force, Utahns may experience things like congestion, runny nose, sinus headaches, and facial pressure. It's a whole mix of not great things.

The Ohio Sinus Institute said that one key thing that impacts the sinuses is weather and barometric pressure. The change in either of those can lead to some nasty face problems for people. Keeping track of the weather can help prevent those sinus migraines that occur.

Fall also brings dry air to both your house and outside so a humidifier may be a good buy this year. The Ohio Sinus Institute said that dry air can wreak havoc in your sinuses and lead to infections.

In Utah, one of the biggest challenges for those with sinus issues is ragweed. A plant that thrives in Fall and is currently making the rounds. The Weather Channel keeps an eye out for these plants and currently the pollen count is low. However, the level is predicted to go up on Nov. 3 to moderate and then come back down.

Here are some tips to help with allergies and sinus issues:

  • Use a humidifier
  • Ask your doctor about nasal sprays
  • Keep an eye on the weather
  • Keep your windows closed
  • Shower after being outside
