Pet Peeves That Bring Us Together In Utah
We all have a pet peeve, right? I have yet to run into anyone who doesn't get annoyed at a sometime very mundane happening around them. A pet peeve is a minor annoyance or irritation that an individual finds particularly bothersome or frustrating. It's a personal quirk or preference that might seem inconsequential to others but holds significant weight for the individual experiencing it.
Pet peeves can range from mundane habits like loud chewing or leaving dirty dishes in the sink to more specific dislikes such as people who are consistently late or individuals who misuse grammar. They're often deeply ingrained and can provoke strong emotional reactions, though they rarely cause serious harm.
I'll share with you the pet peeve that annoys me the most.
It's those drivers who insist in driving significantly under the speed limit in the left lane on Main Street even if the weather is nice. Drives me crazy (no pun intended), especially when I'm trying to get home after the work day.
Yeah, I'm staring at you white Buick driver going 30 miles an hour on the way to the hospital.
While pet peeves are an individual situation, I have wondered if there are communal things that tend to irk off a good segment of our society. Turns out, research has been done to show the pet peeve in every state. I'll share with you the pet peeve here in Utah coming up, but first a very unscientific list of thing I hear often that are annoying to Beehive State residents.
Construction Zones
It seems like construction cones on the highways in Utah is more numerous than the sagebrush that surrounds most of the roadways. And, it always seems to pop up just at the time you are planning a trip and you might just be just a bit behind schedule.
Out Of State Drivers
Is there anything worse? They are either too busy gawking at the beautiful scenery around them (which is understandable) being passed by pedestrians on the side of the road, or they think every road in the state is the Bonneville Salt Flat, and they are working at setting their personal land speed record.
Winter With Out Of State Drivers
Snowstorm plus California drivers? It's a horror show that even Steven King would run away from.
Non Moving Lines
Who doesn't like standing in a long line that hasn't moved an inch in the last 6 months or so. Especially beneficial when waiting to get in to the movie that started 5 minutes ago.
Politicians
I mean this kind of goes without saying, right? Are you not already tired of the emails and the endless texts bombarding you day and night? It's a long way to November, folks!
Well, this is all fun speculation, but it seems the folks at Zippia actually did some research to find out the pet peeve in every state in the country and it turns out our biggest pet peeve in Utah is
Slow Internet
It seems as we have little patience waiting for pages to load and data to transfer here in Utah. In fact, that is the pet peeve of most of the western states.
Notable exceptions? Wyoming, where they don't like passive aggressive behavior. And Nevada, where if you are seen showing affection in public, you'll get a collective state scowl.
Well, time for me to head home now....very slowly in the left lane.
