Bluegrass Vibes Are Coming To Cedar City This Week
Bluegrass fans will have a chance to enjoy an evening of lively acoustic music when the group Special Consensus performs in Cedar City as part of the Cedar City Music Arts concert series.
Marty Warburton, a board member with Cedar City Music Arts, recently discussed the upcoming performance during an interview on the Big Picture Morning Show on KSUB radio. The concert will take place at the Heritage Center Theater at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday March 10th, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
Warburton described the group as a dynamic four-piece bluegrass band whose sound blends traditional roots music with creative interpretations of well-known songs. “And believe it or not, that's bluegrass music. I mean, it's mainstream tune, right? But bluegrass style. It's a thing,” he said during the broadcast, noting how the band often takes familiar material and reinvents it with energetic picking and tight harmonies.
Special Consensus is arriving in Cedar City after performing at the Bluegrass on the Beach Festival at Lake Havasu, where Warburton recently served as master of ceremonies. The partnership between the festival and Cedar City Music Arts has helped bring touring acts through Southern Utah that might otherwise pass the region by.
Synergy Between Cedar City Music Arts And Bluegrass On The Beach
“We have a deal with Bluegrass on the Beach when they have a band, we'll route them through here. If I have a band, we'll route them through there. And it's been working for the last four or five years and had some really good music come into Cedar City,” Warburton said.
In addition to the evening concert, the visiting musicians will also participate in an educational outreach event for local students. Several hundred school children are expected to attend a special morning session where the performers will answer questions and demonstrate their instruments.
“(Tuesday) morning at 10 o'clock, if the sun's up, we'll bus 3 or 400 school kids into the Heritage Center Theater and they'll have a Q&A with the kids and show them how things work and how music is made live and in person,” Warburton said.

Cedar City Music Arts has presented concerts in the community for nearly a century, offering a wide range of performances that span genres from classical to jazz, dance and Americana.
“We go from Utah Symphony to dance to jazz to bluegrass to Americana, and then back to classical,” Warburton said. And it's working. We have a really good audience base that keeps helping us out.”
Warburton said the goal is to continue bringing high-quality live music to Cedar City while also introducing younger audiences to the excitement of live performance.

Special Consensus will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., promising an evening of upbeat, toe-tapping music for local audiences. “It's just so fun,” Warburton said. “It just warms you up and makes you want to, you know, makes you feel like you're alive.”
