For years, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints were known as "Mormons" or "Members of the Mormon Church." Currently, "Mormons" is not the title they like to be known by. But for the sake of everyone being aware about who we're talking about, I'll be referring to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as "Mormons."
If you've grown up in Utah, you understand the culture. You've probably been raised Mormon, been baptized, went to church activities, or maybe just had a friend that was Mormon. It's part of Utah. It's part of who we are as Utahns. Now, maybe the views of the LDS Church don't align with you, and you'd like to be in a place where there are LESS Mormon people. In this article you'll find the Counties in Utah with the LEAST amount of Mormons.
These are the LEAST MORMON Counties in Utah!
(Each of these counties have below 50% Mormon Population)
1. Summit County:
Summit County is known as the "Entrance into Utah" for being the area that the Pioneers first entered as they exited the Wyoming Territory. This County is the LEAST MORMON in all of Utah with only 36% of the population identifying as Mormon. Cities in Summit County that you may have heard of are Park City, Coalville, Kamas, and Oakley.
2. Daggett County:
Daggett County is located at the most northwest corner of Utah, bordering Wyoming and Colorado. Daggett County is home to Manilla, Dutch John, and Flaming Gorge. The Uinta Mountains are in Daggett County, and they contain Leidy Peak. The highest peak in the county at 12,028 feet. Daggett County has 38% Mormon population in the county.
3. Grand County:
Maybe one of the most world-known counties in the United States is Grand County. But why? Grand County is home to Moab and Arches National Park! That big gorgeous arch named Delicate Arch is located in Grand County. There's also only 41% Mormon population in Grand County.
4. Salt Lake County:
Maybe the most surprising County on this list is Salt Lake County. With the headquarters of the LDS Church in Salt Lake City, you probably wouldn't assume they would make the list of LEAST MORMON Counties, but they do! Only 45% of the population is Mormon in this county. But with the population being over 1,200,000 people, 45% is still over 540,000 people!
5 (Tied). Kane County:
Coming in tied for the 5th spot is Kane County. Kane County is home to Kanab aka "Little Hollywood." Many Westerns were filmed in Kane County decades ago. Kane County is also home to Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, and some of the most gorgeous sights in the state. 46% of the population in Kane County is considered Mormon.
5 (Tied). San Juan County:
Tied with Kane County at 46% of Mormon population is San Juan County. San Juan County is the most Southeast county in the state bordering Colorado, New Mexican and Arizona. This is obviously home to the Four Corners area of the United States, where you can be in four states at one time. A lot of Lake Powell is located in San Juan County.
7. Carbon County:
With 47% of Mormon Population, here comes Carbon County. Carbon County is known for coal mining and dinosaur fossils. In Carbon County, you'll find cities like Price, Helper, and Sunnyside.
8. Weber County:
The last county in Utah with under 50% Mormon population is Weber County. Weber is home to 49% Mormon population. They're also the site of Weber State University, Ogden, Roy, and Huntsville. They have over 270,000 residents in the county. Weber County is home to multiple rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and Nordic Valley Ski Resort.
