As scams grow better and harder to distinguishing between genuine and fraudulent, catching these scams can be challenging. CNET reports that scammers are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to create convincing messages that appear to originate from reputable sources like banks. Additionally, the prevalence of text-message phishing, commonly known as "smishing," is on the rise, resulting in Utah residents losing thousands of dollars to these deceptive tactics.

HOW THE SCAM WORKS:

You receive a text message APPEARING to be from your bank, warning you that your account will be closing, debit card restriction, or detected suspicious activity. It prompts you to click on a link to  resolve the issue by providing personal information. After doing so, you find yourself in a nightmare scenario where an unknown individual gains unauthorized access to your bank account. While legitimate banks do communicate via text, the Better Business Bureau advises vigilance in identifying potential scams. Watch out for these red flags to determine if your text message is fraudulent. If you ever have questions of the validity of the text messages, ALWAYS call your bank or stop in. Never call the number that has text you the potentially fraudulent message.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR:

  • A sender with a 10-digit number or email address.
  • A link is included in the text message.
  • A bank website URL with additional characters.

California is a place with tons of natural beauty. With that natural beauty comes a ton of natural danger. The San Andreas Fault is a huge fault line that, if a big enough earthquake happens, can propel half of California into the ocean, skyrocketing the price of now beachfront property in Victorville. One thing we don't hear a lot about, however, is a Super Volcano. That's right... A SUPER. VOLCANO. GUYS!

According to Mirror.co.uk,
At a sprawling 20 miles long, 11 miles wide and 3,000 feet deep the Long Valley Caldera, California, has struck fear into researchers for years. Due to its enormity, it is classed as one of the world's 20 known super volcanoes, with a classification of VEI 8 on the eruption scale.”

Volcanologists are concerned that this thing could blow in the near future... and it's DUE. It hasn't blown in over 750,000 years!

WHY ARE PEOPLE FREAKED OUT?

The size of this thing is massive. It's so big that if it were to blow, there's not much that really ANY crisis management could even do. We wouldn't be looking at THOUSANDS of lives gone... We would be looking at MILLIONS of lives gone. If this thing does look like it's going to bust, I imagine anyone within 1,000 miles AT LEAST will be in danger. Not only from lava, but from the ash and debris that will be up in our atmosphere. Maybe your crazy uncle that has a bunker in his back yard isn't so crazy after all...
