If NASA Beamed A Utah Resident’s Voice to Space, Who Should It Be?
Every year for his birthday, Ringo Starr gets some friends together and chants “peace and love” out to the world.
For his 83rd birthday, NASA is going to help get the word out even farther. They plan to beam his chant to five distant galaxies out in the wide universe. I can imagine alien children stopping to listen as Ringo’s chant drifts down into their oversized alien ears.
I’m glad the space agency is getting something as important as this done. It's about time they started sending words of peace to far off worlds from our aging rock stars. It might be just the thing to stop hostilities between waring planets.
This got me wondering, what could be sent out from here in Utah and who would be the right choice to voice that message? I thought maybe the words of Gordon B Hinkley as he had the ability when he was alive to communicate to different people around the world. His messages of love and hope with his wit and wisdom still resonate today.
Maybe Jerry Sloan, former coach for the Utah Jazz. His blunt coaching style lifted his players to perform at their peak. If he can get the Jazz to the finals two years in a row, maybe he could inspire the universe to greater heights. He might be just the person to get the planets in line.
But I think the most appropriate person to have their words delivered heavenward from our state is Gary Coleman. That’s right Gary Coleman from “Diff'rent Strokes”, the early 80’s sitcom. You may not know that Gary moved to Santaquin Utah later in life and spent his last years in the beehive state. He kind of wanted to stay off the radar and found Utah to be the right place.
I think other worlds would benefit from hearing some of Gary Coleman’s best lines, especially when he would pucker up his lips and say, “what you talkin’ bout Willis.” I still can’t get enough of that one.
