Nasa sent a Snoopy plushie on their 2022 Artemis 1 unmanned moon mission. They sent it to study gravity free effects. This sparked a human connection that earth dwellers seemed to love. Now the team is preparing for a manned mission named Artemis 2. To make that connection happen again they are looking for a new mascot, perhaps a plushie, that they can send to space with astronaut companions this time.

Artemis 2 Mission

To settle on a decision they are inviting the public to make suggestions. It’s a fun idea to get us engaged in the mission, but come on—NASA is based on science. If they really want to choose the most popular choice, they should look at the stats.

Simple Utah Poll

I wondered if they were to look at Utah what would be the most popular plushie. In my simple poll a few Utah preferences surface to the top: The Utah Jazz Bear, the Beehive and an honorable mention for the Bear Lake Monster plushie. Now, see if you can see how cutting edge these answers are.

What is the hands-down, most popular plushie in the world? The teddy bear. If you study carefully the answers from my simple poll, you will notice a clear theme, they all have to do with bears. The beehive is a stretch, but what do bears eat? Honey, obviously from a beehive. Of course, the Jazz Bear is one, and the bear lake monster has a “bear” in the name.

I think NASA, and the world needs to acknowledge the forward popular thinking of Utah as they make future choices. Maybe NASAUC, National Aeronautics and Space Agency Utah Chapter (it’s a working title) should be consulted for more ideas to enrich the mission.
