If you search “DIY fireworks” on the internet, there are several sites and videos showing how to make your own fireworks at home. Is this a good idea? What does Utah law say about lighting fireworks that you created?
Homemade Fireworks Fall Outside of Those Approved by the State
There are several city sites that say you should never make and light homemade fireworks and that they are dangerous. Some cities have addressed homemade fireworks specifically as illegal.
As for the state of Utah, the law outlines clearly what is a legal firework and the dates and times they can be set off. Basically, anything sold in the state is safe to make part of your celebration

Since the law outlines what is considered a firework that can be lit off in Utah and how it will be sold, homemade fireworks would be outside those listed and therefore illegal. Many cities ask citizens to report any illegal or homemade fireworks to the Fire Marshall.

I’m not sure how many people who watched the video actually made one. These would still be illegal and outside the list of fireworks that are legal in Utah. It would be far easier to buy some legal ones at the firework stand.
