High Fashion of Utah On Display

Enjoy New York model-style high fashion right here in Utah.

We were in Northern Utah the other day and found ourselves in one of the centers of high Utah fashion, church.

The weather was cold with some light snow flurries blowing through the grey sky. I guess it's been a long time since I have been up north on a snow day because I had become desensitized to how many layers you can embrace in the high fashion of a Northern Utah winter. From overcoats to sweaters under suit coats to church winter hats. I felt like I had entered a fashion catwalk.

Utah is 23 on the list of states obsessed with fashion, but this weekend seemed like Northern Utah should have been rated higher. I swear some of the men in their plaid suits with scarves were sashaying instead of walking to their pew.

When I moved to Southern Utah in an age long ago I had a rugged outdoorsy sense to my wardrobe.  Part of the look was hiking boots. I liked them especially in shorts because I felt like a park ranger plus I have long legs so I felt like the higher-top shoe made me look less gangly.

After much teasing, I realized that our state has definite fashion scenes. What flies in Northern Utah is not a hot desert look (you're welcome for the pun). You can do the layered university professor look up north, but you better be willing to embrace the loose casual fashion when you cross the Black Ridge.
