Alien Looking Rock Formations in the Utah High Desert

In the Fish Lake area there are some strange rock formations rising from juniper and sage brush covered hills. It has been dubbed the Utah Stonehenge, and it is not easy to find. These pictures are from a guy on YouTube who spent years tracking it down.

What he found was hundreds of piles of rocks that sometimes look like animals, walls, and towers that crest the tops of hills in the area. It does look other worldly. There is no mortar used, just rocks stacked carefully on top of each other.

Did the Druids Visit Utah?

Who built these rock formations? Does it date back to a much earlier time? It turns out the structures were not made by Druids, and these were built fairly recently, between 1940 and 1960, by a local citizen who was watching sheep in the area.

His name was Lorenzo H. Larsen, otherwise known as "Renzo". He served in the army as Special Ops during World War II in the Pacific and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts. After the war he spent several years in the Fishlake National Forest working as a sheepherder.

Renzo helped build a rock wall above the road into Fishlake Resort. This may have inspired him to create the many other rock structures in the area as he quietly watched over his sheep. His grave can be found in the Glenwood Cemetery in Sevier County.

I would like to know more about Renzo, but you can get a feel for the man and his lonely vigil when you see his monuments of rock left all over these quiet hills.
