Fire Retardant Paint in Utah & Nevada For Better Fire Protection
Wildfires in the News Has People Looking for Protection
With this year's news being dominated by homes destroyed by fire, you may have noticed your social media feed showing ways to protect a home. I like the one from Japan that shows these massive fire hoses pop up and start spraying all around the house.
In a place like Utah where water is at a premium, there might be a solution that doesn’t involve soaking your property. It is painting the exterior of your home with fire-retardant paint. There are several on the market.
Works Kind of Like a Fire Break
There are many options out there, but this one made by Firecoat is interesting. This paint is called intumescent paint and has been around for decades. It recently has been made more affordable and accessible to the average homeowner.
The genius of this paint is that it doesn’t so much repel the fire as it takes it in and forms a charred layer. It stops the fire by presenting a surface that is already burnt. When the danger passes, the exterior is black and has been burnt but it can then be scraped off.
