Chapter 12 Overthrown by Fire 70

Succubus had learned much about cursing with air and had begun to experiment with fire. Ansu had handled the flame easily, even making it dance. He had seen his teacher Borgin produce flame from what seemed to be thin air. He tried to imitate the actions he had witnessed. Experimenting, he found he could pull fire toward him, but it quickly dissipated the further it got from its source.

In one of the hallways, he put his hand by a burning torch, willing the fire to him and it leaned his way.

Keep coming little fire and you can burn the big demon.

But as he slowly pulled his hand to his body, the flame followed for a moment, then disappeared.

As he explored it, Succubus found fire had a different consistency than the air. It flowed with energy. He had learned that plasma is like a gas, in that the atomic elements move around, but with higher heat and energy. This causes the atoms to slam into each other so much that some of the electrons escape from the individual atoms and flow freely. Because of this, plasma becomes conductive and can generate a magnetic field.

This conductivity made it feel more uniform to Succubus. It was easier to direct the flow of the fire with his will, but his attempts to cast the fire were constantly frustrated.

At last, the day came when Borgin stood before the class. “Today I will teach you how to curse with fire.” He reached toward a torch on the wall and the flame jumped to his hand.
