Does Your Dog Know When It’s Christmas in Utah?

We love Christmas in Utah, and we love our dogs. In a survey, 34% of people said they would buy a Christmas present for their four-legged best friend. In that same survey, only 19% said they would buy a gift for their in-laws. This might be part of the reason you aren’t getting along with your spouse's parents. 

A hot topic every year on social media is whether our dogs know it is Christmas and if they know why the gift was given to them. Would they notice if the Grinch came in and took their present from under the tree? Which, if so, they should have caught that green dude when he came down the chimney in the first place. 

Is your dog like the Whos singing happily whether it was Christmas or Tuesday? Most people don’t think the dog has any concept of what season it is. They feel like the animal is living in the moment and it gets excited when the people around have high energy. 

However, this woman makes a pretty good case for the dog’s awareness. 

I like John Smith’s reaction. Not only is he all-in on the dogs understanding Christmas, but even took a picture of them actually recreating the manger scene. I’m confident this was all the dog’s idea and Mr. Smith had nothing to do with getting them dressed. 

Whatever your feelings for inviting your pet into the Christmas celebration, I am sure of one thing. When counting the presents under the tree, your mother-in-law is keeping a much closer eye on things than Rex. And if you get a dog bone at two for one, Rex is going to appreciate it a lot more than the human.
