Feeling Stuck On Utah Dinner Plans? Try Flipping A Coin
This Indecisions Bugging Me

“I don’t know—what do you want?”
It’s the discouraging end to a decision-making standoff. Whether it’s dinner plans, weekend getaways, or choosing between two equally mediocre sock colors, indecision can feel like emotional quicksand. Enter: the coin.
Not to decide for you, but to Reveal to you.
There’s a curious psychological trick buried in the flip according to this life hack page. The moment the coin leaves your fingers and spins into the air, something primal stirs.
Your gut, previously silent, suddenly screams, “Please let it be tacos!” or “I swear if it lands on hiking, I’m staying home.” That flash of preference—raw, unfiltered—is your true answer according to the page. The coin doesn’t choose. It provokes.
The Desert Delay
I don't know if the decision dilemma is unique to Utah, but I do feel like with as many connections we have with our strong family and friend ties that getting stuck is more the norm than in other states. With that in mind I am going to call it a "Deseret Delay" where all family members have a say, but don't want to step on another's toes.
Put the Blame Where It Won't Strain.
Not only do you have the benefit of finding out your inner desire with a coin toss–which I believe can be individual or group–it also puts the weight of the decision on something that does not have feelings to get hurt, the coin. If you don't like the decision the group can pivot no hard feelings, the coin doesn't care.
So next time you’re stuck in a loop of “I don’t know, what do you want?”—flip.
