A new show on the Discovery Channel points to gold that was brought to Utah by the Aztec nation to hide it from the invaders from Spain. The show seeks to uncover where treasure worth billions of dollars may be sitting in some dark cave in the beehive state.

Did the Ancestor of the Aztecs Originate in Utah?

Blind Frog Ranch is in eastern Utah not far from the infamous Skin Walker Ranch. The show takes place on this land as they look for buried treasure. One clue they follow to Mexico is an old map and history that indicates the Aztecs may have come from Utah.

In this ancient record it talks about 7 caves where the Aztecs began. It describes an area where there was a large lake with a mountain range where the cave was located. The men searching the land think it is describing the Great Salt Lake and Uintah Mountains.

They say if it is the cave where the Aztec nation began, it would make sense to hide their gold in this location, and they might know where it is. The show gives tantalizing possibilities for finding buried treasure.

Spanish Gold Mines Dot the Mountains of Utah

Buried treasure isn’t a new idea as there are old mine shafts all over the state. There are many stories recorded in history or handed down verbally of gold and silver getting carried in and out of the state.

An example is The Rhoades Mine that goes back to the days of Brigham Young in 1852 when Chief Walker of the Ute tribe told him of an old mine. Brigham sent a man named Thomas Rhoades with a member of the tribe to retrieve the gold.

The location of the mine has never been discovered and the show on Discovery looks for this place as well. Who knows if they will ever recover any gold, but it is entertaining to watch and fun to see a location in Utah getting featured.
