Definition for Term Getting Used in the Media

This slang term has been around for over a decade but has been used in the media more because of the election. It is “crunchy mom” which describes a mother who is aware of what is in the food supply and tries to provide healthier choices for her family.

The crunchy part may have been because these moms fed their kids homemade granola.

This describes almost every mom out there. My mom was laser focused on what was in food many years ago before gluten was on anybody's radar. I don’t know of any mothers out there who aren’t trying to get some vegetables and other healthy stuff into their kids.

Why Are Crunchy Moms A Thing Now?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the reason it has gained mainstream media attention. He has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump as the Secretary of Health and Human Services and has been talking about what is put into food.

This has caught the attention of those worried about the food supply and many have voted according to their concerns.

Now that you know what a crunchy mom is, you may discover that you are one. I know I am more interested in what I’m digesting these days.

You may want to join with others who feel the same. There are Facebook pages where crunchy moms can congregate. “Utah Crunchy Mamas” and “Crunchy Moms of Southern Utah” are a couple of places. Good luck and eat all your granola.
