There are a lot of scorpions in Southern Utah right now. They are hiding in the rocks and possibly crawling through cracks in your foundation. A quick walk around your yard with a black light will reveal these glowing pests.

Looking for Some Place Warm

Scorpion skeletons glow in the dark and a guy on reddit posted a video of him holding a black light and lifting his bed covers to reveal a glowing scorpion. He had felt a tickle on his arm in the middle of the night that woke him up.

If you watch the video be aware you may never sleep again and there is also some foul language. It's kind of hard to blame him. Nobody wants to wake up to a creeping thing with a deadly stinger scooting across your skin.

Scorpions are back already

A woman from Winchester Hills commented on the post that she had found one in her daughter’s bed. There are probably stories like this happening all over Southern Utah with all the scorpions crawling around right now.

How to Get Rid of Scorpions

Your best bet is to let the experts take care of a scorpion invasion. That is your local pest control company. Let them know what you are seeing and where you see the critters hiding. They will know what is working best to deter them.

If you want to handle things yourself, you can try essential oils that repel scorpions. There is also sticky tape traps or natural poisons like ditamaceous earth or Boric acid. You can find more information at this link.

My favorite solution is a black light flashlight and a propane torch. Look in the rocks and brick walls and when you see a shiny scorpion warm them up with the torch. It is surprising that they don’t run, and it can be a bit much for the squeamish.

However, if you have had one of these sneaking into your bed covers at night, it can make you a lot braver. Good luck and if you see one in your sock drawer, make sure to make a video and post it online.
