In the article they say that nationally there is a shortage of 250,000 workers and some months as many as 400,000 jobs go unfilled. One of the ways Utah is addressing this shortage locally is with an apprenticeship program.
This is where young people looking for a career in the skilled trades can get paid while they learn the it as an apprentice. It is impressive how they have built this program out and the number opportunities available.
Utah's Innovative Solution: Apprenticeship Programs
They offer chances to learn everything from assembling metal buildings or an electrician to becoming a pipe fitter or a truck driver. This program has been in place for a couple years now, and yet, there is still a need for more workers.
I talked to a local construction company that said they sometimes don't even get a trade to bid on the projects put out for. Other times the company that does bid is not qualified to do the work.
