2026 was a big year for wildfires. Every storm seemed to start a new fire from lightening. For this reason, the latest update to fire restrictions by the BLM for the Arizona Strip almost makes you think you read it wrong.

Good News for Campers: Fire Restrictions Lifted

As of September 8th, seasonal fire restrictions have been lifted for the Arizona Strip and other parts of Northern Arizona. That's right, campfires are permitted when camping in on this part of Arizona.

The way this year has gone it seemed like we would never see a campfire again, but the moisture from recent storms and a slow decline in heat has tempered conditions. There are still things you should be careful when doing so.

Staying Responsible: Fire Safety Tips

Metal rings and campfire sites should be used and only campfires on the ground in areas where it is permitted. Make sure the fire is completely extinguished before you leave. Douse it with water and stir it with a shovel until it is cold to the touch.

Never throw cigarettes butts out the window and fireworks are not allowed on BLM land. You should also be careful not to park on dry brush as hot engine parts can start a fire. Keep this in mind if you are doing any shooting as a spark can ignite vegetation.
