Utah Loves Jell-O, This Flavor Is Most Popular In The World
Utah is indeed known for loving Jell-O, especially green Jell-O. In fact, in 2001, the Utah State Legislature voted to name Jell-O as the official state snack.
I have heard many times that although we own the title, it might be more because of our intense desire to own the label. Someone told me that Utah once asked Jell-O what they thought of Utah's love of their jiggly product only to find that we weren't even on their radar.
Well, that might have been the case back in the day, but now it seems universal that Utah's #1 position is accepted as the king of Jello consumption.
Every man, woman and child in Salt Lake City buys two boxes of the stuff annually, or twice the national average,
Mary Jane Kinkade of Jell-O brand gelatin-maker Kraft Foods.
So here we sit, the state that consumes the most Jell-O, but what is the favorite flavor in Jell-O sales?
The famous green (or lime) Jell-O? The one that put Utah on the map? Or was it visa versa?
Orange?
How about Lemon? OK, lemon might not be a good guess. It seems to be lower on the popularity list.
Or more exotic like the mango? Or pineapple?
What about the candy flavors like Starburst?
or peach?
No, no the answer might be staring us in the face. You might also know that it is not a close race. The answer is...
STRAWBERRY
A Jell-O spokesperson told me that strawberry is overwhelmingly the most popular flavor. And that’s no surprise, seeing as strawberry pretzel squares are one of the four most popular Jell-O-centric recipes. (Jell-O Jigglers also rank highly.)
So the Utah of Jell-O flavors is Strawberry. I mean if each flavor was a state and we were deciding which flavor was the most popular among the gelatin citizens...I think confused myself.
Let's just say, Congratulations Strawberry! You are the delicious, most loved flavor in the Jell-O flavor contest.
