Driving from St. George to Cedar city on the freeway includes a lot of climbing as there is nearly 3,000 feet in elevation between the two cities. The addition of a third lane for passing big trucks and slow vehicles has been super helpful.

Three Lanes Keeps the Traffic Moving

You may have noticed the third lane ends on I-15 around Kanarraville. Not a big deal as the grades aren’t as steep through this section. That is unless it is a busy holiday weekend when things can get backed up fast.

The section of freeway that turns the corner towards the first Cedar City exit can get pretty backed up. Especially, if there is one slow truck trying to inch past another truck that is moving even slower and blocking both lanes.

UDOT has Announced It is Finishing the Job

On the list of projects to begin this year by the Utah Department of Transportation is a widening of I-15 to three lanes all the way to the exit by the lighthouse. This will resolve this problem spot for busy weekend travel and future growth.

I’m not complaining about the roads through the state. Utah does a great job maintaining and upgrading the black top and has been noted for it nationally. I just appreciate being able to travel through our beautiful state without having to constantly hit the brakes.

This additional lane will make it so the speed demons and those enjoying the scenery can enjoy their drive more in their own way.
