To celebrate the nations 250 birthday this year, Disney is making a change  to their Soarin' Over California ride. To honor the country it will feature a new film that takes you across the United States and near to Southern Utah.

Journey Across America: Iconic Destinations to Discover

They have selected locations across America that they feel will celebrate and give you a better understanding of the nation. On the list is the Grand Canyon and this might be one of the best ways to experience this National Park.

If you have never been on the Soarin' ride, you walk into a dark hanger and they strap you to a harness that lifts and suspends you over a giant I-Max screen. The harness moves to the motion of the film and makes you feel like you are hang-gliding.

There is also wind that blows in your face and smells of the area you are flying over. In the California version you could smell the orange groves.

National Treasures: Iconic Sites Featured in the New Film

The new film made just for the anniversary will take you over Mount Rushmore, a lighthouse in Maine, and the Grand Canyon. I'm sure there will be many cities and other iconic places representative of the United States.

It is one of my favorite rides because it really feels like you are flying. Picture yourself soaring through the massive cliffs and dipping down to buzz people in rafts going over the rapids of the Colorado River.

I don't know if you can get a better look at the Grand Canyon outside of flying your own aircraft between the cliffs. It might be worth a trip to Disneyland in California to experience the semiquincentennial version of the Soarin' ride.
