I talked with AJ Rimmasch, a nurse practitioner with Copper Rock Clinic. He said part of the problem could be in our gut. If our stomach isn’t right, it can be hard to break down food and get the nutrients we need. Even though we are eating, our body is starving for nutrients.

“If you have been on a lot of antibiotics over the years or have had a major viral illness, it disrupts the way the gut absorbs nutrients,” said Rimmasch. “It changes the microbiome.”

The good bacteria that should be in there are missing while bad bacteria have taken their place. These are the bacteria in the gut that break down the food so the body can get those key nutrients. Trying to heal from previous ailments may have created this imbalance.

“When those get messed up, we have a gut-brain access disruption,” said Rimmasch. “This changes the way our body feels. We feel more fatigued because of that lack of nutrition.” This is only one of the possible reasons for fatigue. You should check with your doctor of course.
