One Of The Most Guarded Places In The World Is In Utah
When a place is walled off with big gates and guards so you can’t get in, you can’t help but wonder what is in there. WatchMojo listed the top 10 most heavily guarded places in the world and #8 on the list is right here in Utah.
That’s not all, #1 on the list is just 120 miles from Southern Utah. That would be Area 51, part of Andrews Air Force base in Nevada. Not only is it surrounded by a barbwire fence, there are armed patrols and motions sensors, and you can’t even fly over it as the air space is restricted. Area 51 legendary for being the place the military is hiding alien space ships and alien remains. We may never know all that they are guarding there.
#2 is Fort Knox in Kentucky where the nation's gold reserves are held. The Whitehouse makes the list along with the Vatican and the demilitarized zone in Korea. These are some very secure locations. So, what in Utah made this exclusive list?
The Granite Mountain Records Vault of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints makes it to #8 on the list. These massive vaults were carved into the granite in Little Cottonwood Canyon. They are climate controlled with thick blast doors. Inside is a huge collection of genealogical records on microfilm. These records are well protected under 600 feet or rock and fourteen-ton doors built to survive a nuclear blast.
That's what's inside. Names and dates of people who have passed on. A bunch of records are not as interesting as crashed alien aircraft, but pretty cool, nonetheless.
