New Online Passport Renewal For Utah Travelers
Guess what? You can now renew your passport online. The State Department has rolled out a new beta test for an online passport renewal program, so you can now complete the entire process from the comfort of your couch. Remember that time you slept on the couch after the red eye flight rather than crawl into bed?
Much like the TSA there are travel restrictions. Here are the details of the program itinerary: the program is only available for travelers living in the U.S. who have passports issued between 2009 and 2015. So double check your home address, yeah Utah counts, and your passport date to see if you are eligible. Also, it is not available if you need to change your name or date of birth. We are talking to you, Mr. Bond.
You'll need to be able to upload a new photo of yourself, so get ready to take the perfect passport pic. Heads-up, there is a stipulation you need to be aware of, once you submit your application online, your current passport will be canceled IMMEDIATELY. So, don't do it if you have an international trip coming up soon.

The cost for renewing online is $130, and you can pay with a credit card. Easy peasy!
The State Department is asking for a bit of patience as they test the system. They’re gearing up for a full launch, but in the meantime, the processing time is about 6-8 weeks, not including mailing time. So, like arriving at the airport, plan accordingly. Also, there’s no option for expedited or urgent travel renewals in this test phase.
If those stipulations fit your criteria, why not give it a go? Happy travels, you globe trotter.
