Getting Your Steps Will Have a New Meaning

A unique new landmark is making its way up the bluff in St. George. With the development of Tech Ridge where the old airport used to be, a drainage ditch was required that ran down the back side. Developers wanted to cover this in a way that would enhance the trial system.

They came up with a stairway that leads up the bluff and includes 350 stairs. I think this was an amazing idea that turns what would have been a scar into something that catches your eye and looks intriguing. It reminds me of the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in Hawaii that goes up a volcano.

Race to the Sky

This will become a place to work out those leg muscles and burn significant calories. I think it will become something for visitors to try as well. You can take those who come to St. George out to Glitter Mountain, then to Pioneer Park, and then a trip up the staircase.

The city plans on having a race up the stairs at some point. This is for all those who find running miles on a level surface too tame and need something more challenging. Another brilliant marketing idea from those who promote the area.

I plan on walking it one of these days. I’m training by ignoring all elevators, which isn’t a lot in Southern Utah. I am also running full speed into walls so that I get used to the pain. Watch out for me in the first ever ‘race to the sky’ up the Tech Ridge staircase.
