Transformative Era Begins: Mark Walhimer Leads SUU’s Frehner Museum

Mark Walhimer has been appointed as the new manager of the Frehner Museum of Natural History at Southern Utah University (SUU), signaling a transformative era for the institution. Walhimer's leadership aims to enhance accessibility, engagement, and educational value, positioning the museum as a cornerstone of the Cedar City community.

Dr. William Heyborne, dean of SUU’s Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Natural Sciences, expressed excitement about Walhimer's appointment, anticipating increased awareness and community engagement. Walhimer's strategic vision includes extending museum hours, raising awareness through targeted marketing, and introducing interactive family activities.

Moreover, the museum will serve as a platform to showcase SUU's groundbreaking research in natural history, natural sciences, and STEM fields. Collaborating with SUU's STEM Center, the museum will promote STEM education and real-world learning opportunities.

The Frehner Museum of Natural History is open Tuesday's through Thursday's from 9:30AM to 3:30PM, but the museum also observes SUU closure dates. Tours are also available by advance appointment and you can contact the museum here. Admission to the museum is free.
