If You Bought This At A Utah Wal Mart Check It Now!
Discovering that a food product you've purchased has been recalled can be alarming, but staying calm and acting promptly is essential. Recalls often happen due to safety concerns such as contamination, undeclared allergens, or manufacturing errors.
If you live in Utah and have picked up groceries in at Wal Mart stores, you may want to check your fridge.
Eat This, Not That is reporting that the Braga Fresh Foods company has issued a voluntary recall for one of their products. That product is Marketside Broccoli Florets and was sold in Wal Mart stores through out Utah including Cedar City and St. George. Braga says they could be contaminated with listeria.
Listeria infections, known as listeriosis, are relatively rare but can be severe, especially for certain high-risk groups. In older adults, newborns, or those with weakened immune systems, the infection can spread to the bloodstream or nervous system, causing life-threatening issues like septicemia or meningitis.
The product is no longer in stores. It was sold in 12 ounce packages and had a “best by” date of December 10, 2024. The lot code on the front of the effected bags is BFFG327A6. The product was sold at more than 1,000 Wal Mart stores across 20 states. If you picked up some broccoli at Wal Mart and stored it in your freezer, it would be a good idea to check the product.
While food product recalls can be disconcerting, there are a few things you can do if you have concerns about products you have purchased.
Confirm the recall by checking reliable sources. Visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) websites for official recall announcements. Alternatively, check news outlets or contact the store where you purchased the item. Verify the product details, such as the brand name, batch number, and expiration date, to ensure your item is included in the recall.
Once confirmed, stop using the product immediately. If the recall involves contamination, such as bacteria or foreign objects, avoid tasting or handling the food unnecessarily. Seal the item securely to prevent accidental consumption or cross-contamination with other foods.
Most recalls provide specific instructions: some products should be returned to the store for a refund or replacement, while others may need to be discarded. If disposal is required, ensure the item is securely packaged to prevent animals or other people from accessing it.
