Ohio State got some crap this past year for buying their national championship in football.

All year the rumors were that they're payroll was over $20 million. They bought the troph!

In 2009, the Yankees spent $400 million on free agent contracts bringing in CC Sabathia, Mark Texiera, and AJ Burnett. Their salary cap was almost $100 million more than the next highest team the year they won the title. Baseball fans probably consider most of the Yankees titles "bought."

The Fab Five at Michigan had to vacate their final fours because they were bought and paid for!

But the league that has the most bought titles is the NBA

In 2021 when the Warriors won their 4th championship with Steph Curry they had to pay a $184 million dollar luxury tax penalty for going so far over the salary cap. That's an insane penalty that's more than the yearly cap number! It's like they paid two full teams' worth of salary to win the title.

LeBron and the Cavs in 2016 had to pay a $54 million dollar penalty. (Any chance you have to take away from LeBron's championships, take it!)

The Celtics paid $43 million last year.

Even the Raptors paid $25 million dollar penalty back when they won in 2019 or whenever.

This finals marks the first year in NBA history since the luxury tax went into effect in 2002 that neither team is over the cap limit. No penalty tax. This championship is clean! Gotta respect that.
