To be fair every county probably has a problem with distracted driving and I do too so I'm not Judge Judy on the topic my an means...

But according to some fairly recent data, the county that is having disproportionate accidents because of distracted driving is Utah County.

Utah Department of Public Safety, in 2023 Utah County had 1,144 car crashes due to distracted driving. That's over three per day. Utah County is the second most populous county in the state behind Salt Lake. Davis County is the third most populous county with half the population of Utah County, but it's distracted driving numbers are well below 50% of Utah County's. Davis only had 413 compared to the 1,144 that Utah County had. (Link to stats)

According to KSL: (link to full article)

"Orem and Provo police are increasing their distracted driving enforcement to lower the amount of local car accidents, they announced in a Facebook post last week. Their efforts will likely extend through the summer, with periodic evaluations to adjust their patrolling methods.

"'The number of accidents involving distracted drivers has increased over the last several years in the Orem and Provo area," the post said. "Please remember to keep your hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road while you are driving, removing all distractions you can."'

This was in 2021, and the numbers are about the same as of 2023.

Washington County had 305 but that's with 200,000 people compared to Utah County's 700,000.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Are you surprised by these numbers?
