Reasons Your Home Security May Be Compromised

There are times when it may be important to change the locks in your home and one scenario that requires immediate action. Here are some situations where experts recommend you change the locks to your home.

One: When You First Move In

You don’t know who has had access to the home before you bought it. It has probably been shown to others and if it is new construction, the builder and subs had access.

Two: When Someone No Longer Lives There

When someone moves out, especially if it was not a positive experience when they left, you should change the locks.

Three: If The Lock Has Been Compromised

If you have experienced a break in or if you or someone who lives in your home has had to force their way in, it will be easier to force the lock again. Even older locks may have worn and it might be time to replace them.

Four: Lost Keys

If you lose your keys you won’t know who has them and even if they are recovered, they may have been copied.

Change Locks Immediately if This Happens

The experts give this final tip. If you see a number of break-ins in your neighborhood, it may indicate the thief has a master key. This may happen if you are in an area of new construction.

When a neighborhood is built by one builder, they may have a master key that will open every home so they can finish the build process.  If someone obtains the master, they can enter any home at their convenience. A quick change of your locks will thwart this scenario.
