Are You A Christmas Tree Early Bird Or A Late Scrooge In Utah?
Utahns love their traditions, but when it comes to holiday decorations, timing is everything.

Put them up too early and you’re the neighbor who makes everyone feel guilty. Wait too long and suddenly you’re the Scrooge of the cul-de-sac. So when do average Utahns actually deck the halls?
Too Early:
Halloween die-hards that swap pumpkins for pine garlands on November 1 are generally frowned upon according to my unprofessional survey. It seems those who believe in holiday overlap and probably have a Costco-sized stash of peppermint bark ready are generally too agressive. If this was you, You’re the overeager cousin who brings Jell-O salad to every family gathering, it's probably time to sit down and prioritize your Thanksgiving a little bit.
The Right Utah Christmas Decoration Time
The majority of Utahns seem to wait until the turkey leftovers are gone before getting their candy cane on. We seem to accept that Black Friday isn’t just for shopping—it’s the unofficial kickoff for lights, wreaths, and inflatable Santas.
This is the sweet spot. You’re the Goldilocks of Utah holiday cheer—just right.
Too Late:
A small, but proud group insists decorations shouldn’t go up until December hits. They argue it keeps the season special and prevents burnout. This might work for your philosophy but, beware the hood is probably on high alert to see if you are the house that leaves them up until mid-January. Late to the party, often late to leave. Let's face it you’re the guy still wearing shorts in January.
Where Do You Fall?
- If you’re already twinkling by mid-November, congratulations—you’re **too early** by Utah standards. The HOA may not fine you, but your neighbors are silently judging.
- If you’re still fumbling with tangled lights after December 10, you’re officially behind the 8 ball. At this point, even the gas stations have their trees up.
