In a list of the coolest buildings in every state, the pick for Utah might not be the first one you think of. It is the Natural History Museum of Utah. Huh? It is a kind of interesting building I guess, but hardly noteworthy.

The Factors That Determined the Coolest Building for Each State

Business Insider compiled the list and at the outset they said it was hard to determine what made a building cool. Should it be futuristic or reflect the state's heritage and culture? Studying the list, it looks like they did some of each.

Alabama features an old terminal that incorporates a Spanish influence. It is large and stately and was built in 1907. For Florida they chose the Salvador Dali Museum that has glass bulging from the cement walls. It looks daring and modern.

For many states they chose chapels that are old like a round one in Vermont, and a newer one built into red rocks in Arizona. All of these buildings they say are worthy of a visit.

Natural History Museum May Not Be Utah’s Most Stunning Edifice

Given the parameters, how can you scan all the buildings in Utah and land on the Natural History Museum as the coolest. They liked it because they say, “it looks like it could have been carved out of the landscape.”

Okay, I guess I can kind of see that. Still, there is a building in downtown Salt Lake that just possibly might look a bit more interesting and reflect the culture and heritage of the state. Heck, it might even get a few more visitors.

If you say they weren’t looking at old buildings, you look elsewhere on the list where they did. Maybe religious buildings aren’t cool but those are listed as well. Perhaps the religion headquartered in Utah just isn't cool enough in their estimation.

I guess I can understand that. But even if you don’t put the Salt Lake Temple as the coolest building in Utah, I’m not sure this museum is even second in line.
