I was mistaken, I know it is hard to believe, but I did misunderstand the news that I read about a year ago. I had understood that there was an ice age fossil area set aside in the north Las Vegas area, but I thought the brochure, (yeah I actually saw the national park looking brochure at another park, picked it up and read it) said that while this area was set aside there would be no visitor center.

Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong and it’s possible that the brochure was dated, because there is a visitor center complete with interesting ice age fossils for you to discover. This is yet another getaway that you could do in a day just down the road from Southern Utah.

The area is called Tule springs and is home to a 22,000-acre site of old ice age fossils. In fact, it boasts of being the largest cache of ice age fossils on the planet. I think you should plan a trip in the dead of summer while it’s scorching outside to see if you can imagine that there was ever an ice age in this area. Or plan B head out while the weather is pleasant, dare — I even say cold — and check out this cool piece of our desert history.

Entry fee is quite affordable and if you hate the hustle of too much city you can exit before getting into the stress of Las Vegas.

Maybe bring some frozen vegetables as a snack in honor of the past seasons of the desert.
