El Paso just went a little crazy for a special edition Stanley Cup. If you are unfamiliar with the Stanley Cup you might think I am talking hockey, but no, this is a tumbler that is actually called the Quencher. This cup is insulated, has a top, fits in a drink holder and has a reusable straw.
Now you might wonder what the big deal is. Cups like these have been around for ages, in fact, the Quencher itself has been manufactured by Stanley for years, but like a kid who learns that "Mommy's juice" is tastier than "his juice", the cup suddenly became very popular.
Here is the back story of the success of the Quencher including its ties with a Utah visionary.
There once was a trio of influencers who made a service called Buy Guide. They would post advice on products with which they had experience. The Buy Guide is made up of 3 ladies Ashlee LeSueur, who lives in Carlsbad, California, Taylor Cannon, of Purchase, N.Y.; and our very own Linley Hutchinson from Alpine, Utah. At one point Ashlee LeSueur discovered Stanley's Quencher and thought she had found "the one". To make sure she had found a treasure she bought one for Taylor and Linley. They also loved it and started sharing it on the Buy Guide.
For manufacturing reasons the cup was not always available and an idea started making the rounds that the Stanley company was discontinuing it. This caused some concern and possibly drove the desire to get one before they were gone. After confirming that Stanley was not phasing out the cup the Buy GUide was presented with an opportunity. Stanley offered them a 10,000-cup wholesale order.
We ordered those cups and were like, ’We don’t know if we’re going to sell out of these tomorrow, or if we’re going to be trying to get rid of cups for the rest of our lives.
They were a huge hit and have been so ever since thanks to the 3 visionary ladies and the Buy Guide.
