5 Mistakes Professional Designers See In Your Utah Kitchen
Is Your Kitchen Causing Designers to Roll Their Eyes?
The styles and designs of houses are always changing and one of the places that change the most is the kitchen. Often what the homeowner wants clashes with the latest trends and can be frustrating for a designer.
Mark Tobin and Adam Pretoris are a couple of different designers who makes videos online and look at trends that don’t make sense. Here is a list five mistakes that they say are common today. Take a look and see if you are guilty of any of these and if you even care what they think.
1. Seating Around the Island
The open kitchen concept has been popular for a long time. This features a large island in the middle, usually with a sink in it. Most people put bar stools or some kind of seating along one side.
Mark points out that this seating is usually uncomfortable with too little leg room and not enough counter overhang. He suggests planning to make it comfortable or getting rid of the seating altogether.
2. Pot Filler
This is the faucet above the stove that makes it easy to fill a pot with water. Mark thinks it can look good in a kitchen. Many people feel it gets greasy and dirty and is just another thing to maintain that they never use.
3. Corner Pantry
The walk-in pantry at the corner that looks like a closet looks out of place and takes up all the focus. Adam says there are much better pantry designs than this closet sitting in the corner.
4. Two-Tiered Island
When you have to levels of kitchen top. One large surface is a lot easier to use and lay things out on. Adam points out a one surface counter doesn’t hide your dirty dishes, but that is a good thing.
5. Microwave Vent Hood
You don’t want air pulled through your microwave and pumped back into the room. Adam really hates this. He says to get a vent hood that will send the air out of the house.

What do you think? Do you agree with these five items should be banished? I have three on this list and I kind of agree. The problem is I will have to redesign the whole place to get rid of them. That's a lot of work. I think I just won’t invite any designers over.
