Here is how it goes.

Step One: You are sitting quietly by your phone, get a call informing you that your email has been compromised. This call is generated with an AI voice.

Step Two: You receive an email. This double connection tricks people into thinking they are in a 2-step verification situation, but they are not. The same evil monster has generated the email.

Step Three: The link that is presented and you are instructed to click is the nasty portal into your sensitive information.

Perpetrators are using Google for the scam and since Utah has a high saturation of Gmail users, we are especially vulnerable.

Here is the secret sauce to remaining safe from this scam and most others. DO NOT TRUST an unsolicited message. Any link provided to you can be tricksey. If you get unexpected information that asks you to click or call, simply go to the company or person that is supposedly making the request and follow the records that you have.

In this example Google notifies you about your Gmail account. Go to Google yourself and find contact information and follow the trusted link or phone number from there. Or say a family friend calls, get the information and tell them you will call them back, call the number you have for them.

Good luck, stay safe and don’t let the evil scammers win.
